Mulch
Mulching is cultural practice in landscaping that has many benefits such as:
- Water retention
- Weed reduction
- Slow introduction of organic matter into the soil
- Regulate soil temperature
Think of mulch as a buffer between the soil and the atmosphere. Specifically, bare soil around plants can lead to many negative issues to plants such as scorching soil temperatures, evaporation of moisture, and erosion from rain. Mulch can come in many forms such as pine bark, pine needles, cypress tree bark, eucalyptus bark, and tree leaves. These types of mulch have their advantages and disadvantages.
Key Criteria
The key criteria for which kind of mulch to use are:
- Plant pH requirements
- Root base exposure
- Moisture requirements of plants
The biggest decision is when is the best time to lay mulch and when should it be touched up during the year. Victory Cuts Landscaping & Design will provide recommendations for mulch application and replacement as part of our regular maintenance checks for our clients.
